In October 2024 Ray went to London for a reference photography day, wandering around the city streets taking pictures of things that caught his eye.  This painting is from one of the photos he took that day on Berwick Street. There they have a solo motorcycle bay that has these chunky security rings embedded in the ground, that bikers can use a chain with to lock their motorbikes securely.  This painting is called “Road to Insecurity” as it looks like this lock may be on its way to being yanked out of the road very soon.

Ray decided to draw this picture as he wanted to challenge himself to capture a high level of realism in the metallic subject, especially to reflect the blurring depth of the disappearing background and the dirty detail in the foreground.
