Commissions

Every commission is a collaboration between us. We will begin by talking through your ideas and the subject(s) you’d like captured. Once we’ve agreed on reference picture(s) and your bespoke requirements, Ray will provide a clear quote and guide you through the process.

Your vision will be transformed into a unique painting that feels truly personal. Many clients choose to commission a piece for themselves, while others gift an artwork to someone special.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to complete a commission?

The timescale depends on the size and complexity of the piece, as well as current commitments. After discussing your requirements, a realistic schedule will be agreed.

What's the cost of a commission?

Commissions start at £495 for smaller, simpler works. Since every piece is unique, the final price depends on size, subject, and level of detail. A personalised quote will be provided after our initial discussion.

Can I commission a painting as a gift?

Absolutely. Many clients commission artwork as a meaningful gift. The process is designed to be smooth, with the finished piece ready to be presented beautifully.

Do I pay a deposit?

Yes, a deposit is requested to secure the commission, with the balance due on completion. Payment details are confirmed during our discussions.

Can I provide reference images or ideas?

Yes. Photos, sketches, or ideas are very helpful in guiding the artwork and ensuring the painting captures your vision perfectly.

What medium is used?

Pastel pencils and soft pastels are used on Clairefontaine Pastelmat Board, creating your painting with depth, detail, and colour.

Will my painting be framed?

Framing can be arranged if required. Ray uses the services of a highly skilled local framer, a member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen, to ensure the artwork is presented to the highest standard. Framing costs and timescales can be discussed as part of the process.
